The incident not only abruptly interrupted Rahul Gandhi’s travel plans but also sent shockwaves through the ranks of his supporters and the broader political community, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement and security personnel. As the authorities scrambled to assess the situation and ensure Rahul Gandhi’s safety, the shattered window stood as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of public figures and the constant risks they face, even within the presumed safety of their own vehicles. The event has sparked a conversation about the adequacy of security arrangements provided to politicians in the current climate of heightened political tensions.<\/p>\n

There was an unexpected act of aggression that resulted in the shattered window of Rahul Gandhi’s vehicle. Present in the same car was the State Congress President, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. Chowdhury has raised suspicions that the damage to the vehicle might have been a deliberate act of vandalism. The incident comes as a stark interruption to Gandhi’s ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, a journey that has brought him from Bihar to Maldah.<\/span><\/p>\n

Commenting on the incident, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury stated, “I was inside the vehicle. I did not see who threw the stones from behind. However, at every step here, there have been attempts to hinder Rahul.” Without naming any party directly, he hinted at the involvement of the ruling party, saying, “Understand who has carried out the attack. We know here that guests are to be treated as gods. But ever since Rahul Gandhi’s journey entered Bengal, he has been facing obstructions. It all started from Cooch Behar. At every step, there is insult, not allowing meetings to happen, and all forms of opposition.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The concerns for Rahul Gandhi’s safety during his Bengal tour had been anticipated, and on Saturday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had already sought security measures. In this context, a letter had been sent to West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Following this letter, the Wednesday attack on Rahul Gandhi’s vehicle took place. Despite this, Rahul Gandhi did not appear to be overly concerned, as he was seen smiling while exiting the damaged vehicle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Senior Congress leader Pradip Bhattacharya expressed his views on the incident by emphasizing the need for a joint investigation to identify the assailants at the Bengal-Bihar border, pointing to growing concerns over the law and order situation in both states. Meanwhile, central leader Jairam Ramesh dismissed any possibility of Trinamool Congress’s involvement, asserting ‘INDIA is united and strong. Congress leaders must remember that this unity is to defeat BJP, and it has no relation to the party’s position in the state. Mamata is our inspiration.’<\/span><\/p>\n

However, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seems to have a different tune. Even today in Maldah, she has mockingly referred to Rahul as the ‘spring cuckoo’, using the phrase ‘walk alone’ to characterize his efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n
