In a scathing statement posted on \u2018X\u2019 (formerly Twitter), Gogoi condemned Shah\u2019s labeling of the disaster as a \u201cflood-like situation,\u201d emphasizing that the floods have already claimed over 70 lives.<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u201cThe statement of Minister of Home Affairs Shri Amit Shah regarding the tragedy in Assam shows a lack of knowledge and sincerity. More than 70 people have died due to the floods yet the Minister chooses to describe the current disaster as a flood-like situation,\u201d wrote Gogoi, expressing deep disappointment over Shah\u2019s perceived inadequate response.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gogoi also criticized Shah\u2019s overall handling of flood-related issues in Assam, pointing to previous contentious remarks from the Home Minister. He argued that Shah\u2019s statements highlight the BJP government\u2019s failure to effectively assist Northeastern states in addressing climate change impacts.<\/span><\/p>\n

This critique emerged shortly after Amit Shah acknowledged the flood situation in Assam, following heavy rains that have battered the state. Shah assured that both the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are vigorously engaged in relief operations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOn account of the heavy rains, a flood-like situation has occurred in Assam. Spoke with Assam CM Shri @himantabiswaJi about the ongoing situation. The NDRF and the SDRF are working on a war footing, providing relief and rescuing the victims. PM Shri @narendramodiJi stands firmly with the people of Assam and is committed to providing all possible assistance to the state in these challenging times,\u201d Shah posted on \u2018X\u2019, reaffirming the central government\u2019s support for Assam.<\/span><\/p>\n

The severe flooding in Assam over the past month has led to significant loss of life and extensive damage to infrastructure. More than 2.42 million people across 30 districts have been affected, with the worst-hit district, Dhubri, seeing 775,721 people affected. The deluge has also destroyed over 63,490 hectares of agricultural land, left hundreds homeless, and resulted in the loss of at least 92 animals.<\/span><\/p>\n
