T<\/span>he Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, has intensified its protest against the deployment of central forces to Saibol village in Kangpokpi district\u2019s Lhungtin Sub-Division, by enforcing a 12-hour shutdown across the district. This heightened agitation comes amid an ongoing indefinite economic blockade<\/a> along National Highway-2, which continues to destabilize the region\u2019s socio-economic fabric.<\/span><\/h5>\n

The shutdown began at 2:00 PM, effectively freezing activities in Kangpokpi district. Business operations, markets, and offices remain closed, with vehicular traffic on the highway limited to essential services. Key locations, including the district headquarters and sub-divisional centers, have ceased all daily functions as CoTU volunteers ensure strict adherence to the shutdown.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Kuki-Zo tribal community has expressed dissatisfaction with the government\u2019s apparent disregard for their concerns. The presence of central forces in Saibol is seen as a disruption to peace and a challenge to the tribal community\u2019s dignity. \u201cThe deployment of forces from the valley to Saibol is unacceptable and a violation of our community\u2019s trust. We have been left with no choice but to take stronger measures,\u201d stated a protester.<\/span><\/p>\n

The combined impact of the district shutdown and the NH-2 blockade has led to significant disruptions. This vital trade route\u2019s inactivity has spurred shortages of essential goods and affected the lives of thousands. Schools and businesses remain closed, exacerbating the challenges faced by district residents.<\/span><\/p>\n

CoTU has restated its demands for the immediate withdrawal of central forces from Saibol, warning of escalating actions if their concerns are neglected. \u201cOur agitation will only grow stronger if the Government fails to act promptly. This is about safeguarding the dignity and rights of the tribal community,\u201d declared a CoTU leader. The protest underscores the community\u2019s resolve to protect their rights and demand government accountability.<\/span><\/p>\n
