In the hilly district of Karbi Anglong, sections of National Highways 36 and 39 are being secretly used by some unscrupulous traders as corridors for the illegal supply of Burmese supari. The truth of this has been further confirmed today by the large quantity of Burmese supari seized during a routine police checkpoint in the Dilai area of Bokajan sub-division. In addition to the Burmese supari, the police also confiscated drugs worth several lakhs of rupees.
According to police sources, during a routine checkpoint today, the Dilai police discovered a total of 23 quintals of Burmese supari concealed in 24 packets from a Bolero pickup vehicle with the registration number AS-31-C-1077. Along with the drugs seized today, one supplier was also arrested. The arrested supplier of the Burmese supari is identified as Husein from Dibrugarh. The market value of the Burmese supari seized by the Dilai police today is estimated to be around 11 lakh takas, as per police sources.
Meanwhile, today, the police seized 35.95 grams of drugs hidden in three soap boxes from three individuals—Zakir Hussein, Khairul Islam, and Faruk Ahmed—during a search of a sand-laden dumper truck with the registration number NL-07-AA-3778. According to police sources, the market value of the seized illegal drugs is estimated to be over 300,000.
