The Manipur government has extended the suspension of internet and mobile data services in five districts of the conflict-affected state for an additional five days.
The decision, outlined in a government order issued on Sunday, September 15, 2024, comes after a thorough review of the current law and order situation. The extension, effective from September 15, follows an earlier suspension aimed at mitigating potential disruptions and unrest in the region.
The order specifies that the suspension will remain in effect in the districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching. It also includes the continued suspension of VSAT and VPN services within these districts.
The Manipur government’s directive states, “After reviewing the prevailing law and order situation and its possible correlation with the general operation of internet suspension in the last fortnight, the state government has decided to continue the suspension of internet and mobile data services.”
The suspension will extend until 3:00 pm on September 20, 2024. The aim is to maintain peace and stability within these regions during this critical period.
